Currently, I believe that Senator McCain’s association with and support of the Bush administration, let’s not forget that John McCain strongly endorsing President Bush in 2004, and has greatly similar voting records. McCain is a conservative, and while he may endorse “reform,” he certainly does not believe in the kind of governmental overhaul as Obama. The most interesting thing to me about the Powell endorsement is that he said that both presidential candidates would make “good presidents,” but that Obama as a “transformative figure.”
Powell reinforcing the idea that government currently requires this transformative figure is yet another example of conservative intellectual figures asking for this kind of change, and this sentiment seems groundbreaking. To hear both candidates loudly advocating for reform is astounding compared to the winning “stay the course” and “flip flopper” strategy of the Bush/Cheney campaign. When push comes to shove, the American people are calling for a new direction in nearly all assets of government. The most obvious choice for change will be the liberal candidate. And thus, Obama has made this a key issue of his campaign, Powell’s endorsement of Obama not only shows the necessity for that change, but also the kind of change that will result. While I disagree personally with many of Powell’s specific beliefs, I think that his objection to the Bush administration’s policies that’s implications were not properly explored, and the statements that were dishonest are admirable and important.
Change of fundamentals in the executive office, as well as the entire government seems to be an issue that all Americans deem highly important.
As stated earlier, I think Powell’s support does highlight the lack of rationality, intelligence and inclusion of the GOP but it also hits on a couple specific issues, such as the failures of foreign policy, economic policy, cultural insensitivity, and divisive tendencies. Clearly Americans will never agree on each issue, and I’ve seen that while canvassing for Obama. People on the street praised him for a variety of different reasons, and expressed a variety of political ideologies. This Powell endorsement hopefully will be used by the Obama campaign as an example of the Democratic Party representing difference of opinion coming together to create a better and more uniting government, as well as governmental policies.

Oh and, has anyone else been paying attention to Powell’s “maveriking?” As far as I’m concerned he’s seemed to have taken much more abuse from his party, and is stepping across party lines more then I’ve seen in Senator McCain (especially in the last four years) and certainly Sarah Palin.

Powell's endorsement of Obama does not verify Obama's judgement, but rather brings Powell's judgement into question. Powell says that Obama is ready to lead ... WHY? ... Regardless of Powell's last minute endorsement, Obama is still the most liberal senator in congress ... who accomplished nothing in his meager 3 years in office, except voting present 160 times, and campaigning for President, as well as associating with anti-American racists and domestic terrorists ... and, taking America down the road to socialism. Obama betrayed a friendship of 20 years, for personal ambition. Powell betrayed his friendship with McCain. McCain did not betray his fellow prisoners, even during 5 years of torture. These facts speak volumes about who these men really are, and whether or not we can trust them.

The Powell endorsement will immediately undercut McCain's new lines of attack that Obama associates with terrorists and that he is a socialist. Whatever Powell did at the UN for Bush, all who know him know he wouldn't endorse a man he seriously thought associated with terrorists of any kind. It also undercuts McCain's first and last remaining alleged "advantage," that he is preferable on national security matters. It's a major win for Obama and should help negate the couple points McCain picked up after the last debate.

Those who don't want General Powell's endorsement should think about this. The Republicans are the ones excluding people. Let's not say the same about the Obama campaign. We need to be open and welcoming to all who support our cause. Because someone disagrees on a couple of things but agrees with the goal should not mean we put them down. The people who support Senator Obama are of all races, all religions, all kinds on inner thoughts and of all parties. As we accept these peoples endorsements and votes, we can help each other understand and grow together. This is what can make the United States a stronger and more fair nation. While I think I may agree with you, I also think there's something significant about this move of Powell's. He's repudiating the Bush Administration. He's repudiating the republican party. He's reaching across the aisle.

Anybody who marched against the war, as I did many times, already feels anger at Colin Powell for this charade in front of Guernica. People who do not feel this way are not the same people who marched with us. They are the people who might be on the fence: the independents who are concerned about foreign policy, who do not see the insanity in Bush's mindless foreign policy, who erroneously believe that wars can be fought against emotions, who may even think that there is a way to "win" such a nonsensical war. These are the people who need to come out loud and strong for Obama. These are the people we need in two weeks. These are the people Colin Powell has spoken to.

There will be time for gnashing of teeth in two or more weeks. Right now we fight incrementally. First to oust the king, and later to continue fighting for what's right.

Is Powell still a credible figure in American politics?

In his endorsement, he again gave the lame excuse for backing the Bush attack and making his UN speech saying that he was fooled by the intelligence.

Of course, Democratic and Republican people in Congress, the Administration and media all gave that very poor excuse as cover.

But we must remember the millions of people who marched in America against the obviously impending attack Bush was determined to make on Iraq, despite evidence or no evidence. We marchers all saw how bogus the Bush rationale was. It was contrived, cherry picked "evidence" we did not buy.

We were all smarter than the heavy hitters in Congress and government and the media? No, we just did not feel the need to jump onto the Establishment bandwagon to protect our newspaper, Congressional seat, or media job. We were free to speak the truth as it plainly was.

The anti-Iraq marchers - the most forgotten group in American history.

So excuse me if I pass on excitment about Powell and what he says.

Will the media point out the contradiction of Obama, who bashed Clinton for "voting" for the war but then negotiates an endorsement from Powell, who sold the war? Also, any gay person over 30 should remember Powell being one of the chief architect's of the defeat of Clinton's effort to end the ban on gays and lesbians in the military. And he's the first public figure to put us on full-blast for our nation's hate of Muslims.

When I first heard of the endorsement - my feelings were - W O W !!!! And I felt even prouder to be a part of this GREAT campaign.

I've also been one to have become extremely disappointed in Gen. Powell for his role in the Iraq fiasco.

With that said, I think that his remarks today were astonishingly beautiful and eloquent. It reminded me why I had so much admiration for him in the past.
