We dislike her because we dislike her politics and we're the ones who have to bear the consequences of her poorly thought out decisions. Women are the ones who will be forced to give birth, even when raped. Women will be the ones missing out on an education because they have to drop out of school to give birth. If Palin actually had some plans as to how she is going to run the country, and actually expressed those plans instead of spewing the usual Republican vitriol that they are known for, then she would have more female supporters. People need to actually think and see beyond the pretty face. Underneath it, Sarah Palin is continually demonstrating that she isn't a very nice person at all.

"It is amazing how Republicans still think that ex...

"It is amazing how Republicans still think that experience is not essential as long as the packaging looks marketable."

She may not be as qualified as Joe Biden to be president, but she is more qualified than Barack Obama if all you look at is job experience. How could she possibly be effective in Congress and also be a good mother?"

You may or may not agree with the premise of that question. (I don't.) My point is, it comes up, and comes up consistently, when I see conservative women post about Burner.

Now we have Sarah Palin. Who, if little else is known about her, is already well known for having an infant son with Downs' Syndrome.

The way this has been spun so far by the McCain campaign is, "Hey, when it comes to being pro-life, Palin doesn't just talk the talk, she walks the walk. An attitude towards public service just like "Ace" McCain."

The thing is... I have a deep suspicion that many women, and particularly conservative women, are going to look at this situation and go, "She has an infant son? With Down's? How can she possibly be a good mother and...?"

Say what one will about Chelsea Clinton, at least she's grown up, has a job, and is not a responsibility for her mother.

I think Sarah Palin might not only be too conservative for most women who supported Senator Clinton to be at all attractive to them... I think she might turn conservative women voters off. Their husbands may go ga-ga, and they may be the ones filling up talk radio right now with what a brilliant conservative choice Palin is, but... {shrug}

These polling numbers pretty much fall in line with that analysis.

What i would like to know is how any half minded H...

What i would like to know is how any half minded Hillary fan would even consider voting for 1) someone that has nothing in common with her issues. 2) Consider voting for Palin after the comments she made about Hillary. It isn't pandering WHEN HE WAS ELECTED BY THE GENERAL POPULATION. Palin has not been elected by anyone. Not a single person has elected her to the position of VP, she's been appointed. Plus, she has not even been vetted. Which is why her APPOINTMENT to the VP slot is pandering, and Obama's ELECTION to the P spot is fair and square.

I maybe would have voted for a McCain-Lieberman ticket, but I sure as Hell will not vote for a McCain-Palin ticket. Palin is a barely-educated, back water bimbo, and she'd take away my rights as a woman in a heartbeat, and beat me over the head with her religion while she was at it.

ok. As to actually governing, well the Republicans never do that well and in any case the President in a Republican administration is usually just a front man anyway.

Everyone should read this list:http://www.dailykos...

Everyone should read this list:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/30/201818/606/27/580690

It absolutely blows my mind that the numbers could...

It absolutely blows my mind that the numbers could be so high. Sounds like Black is comparing McCain to a deity, doesn't it? Isn't one of the memes the Republicans are trying to instill is that Senator Obama's supporters think of their candidate as 'The Messiah', and thinking in that manner is wrong? How far from 'The Messiah' is 'foot of the master'? Not far in most people's minds.

"[M]ost doctors think that he’ll be around at least [4 years]'? Brings up the age and health issue. He didn't say 'all doctors', or 'barring unforeseen circumstances' or other qualifier - '[M]ost doctors think that he’ll be around at least [4 years]'. Actuarial statistics say that is true. But we all know of someone under the age of 50 who had inoperable cancer, or had a heart attack, or had a brain aneurysm, or other health crisis that killed or crippled them to an extent that they were incapable of leading a normal life, and the doctor didn't see it coming.

But the very first words are the most damning - “She’s going to learn national security. In other words, Charlie Black has, in so many words, admitted that Palin knows NOTHING about national security.

"I put America first" my ass. If that were true, McCain would have picked someone who, FROM DAY ONE, had at least a modicum of knowledge about national security. According to Charlie Black, it's going to four years for Palin to learn about national security????

Mike

stop_the_stutter said..."Obama follows his party l...

stop_the_stutter said...
"Obama follows his party like a lemming almost ALL the time."

STS,

(Your initials sound like an std - vbg)

Lemmings are not suicidal. First of all choosing her was not insulting to women. Think of it this way, not all women were supporting Hilary because they agreed with her whole-heartedly, some just chose what they found to be the lesser of evils, and her being a women would have had an impact on that support. Mccain's camp does not expect to win over hard-core democrats, they are looking to get some of the independent women voters who found that none of the candidates matched their beliefs exactly.

Palin is a strong, intelligent, attractive woman. Not all women have such major jealousy issue to be insulted by a former beauty queen being chosen. Nor are all women pro-baby killing. Women should not be put into this box you people seem to be trying to create. I am a young, attractive, well-educated women who is pro-life, non-religious, and chose to vote for John McCain in the super Tuesday primaries. I find this choice to be a nice addition, while I know I don't agree with her on every issue, I believe it will be nice to have a Washington outsider to shake things up. Historically, women candidates have had a little bit tougher time selling themselves to the public than male candidates have. Male candidates are assumed tough, female candidates more often have to prove their tough enough for the job. I think Hillary Clinton went a bit overboard trying to prove that case during the primaries. She proved she was tough a long time ago.

I am a moderate and an independent who observed both sides of the political spectrum. In the past, I have heard some loony things come out of the mouths of those on the left, but this year, the discussion from the left is intelligent and very coherent for the most part (90% of what I read).

For the last 15-20 years, the right has been big on slogans and spinning the facts to their advantage. Often there is some meat to what they are talking about. Even if it is exaggerated, or I think their premises are nuts, there was some inkling of believability to their arguments.

Virginia Conservative's claims that putting Obama at the top of the Democratic ticket equates to the pick of Sarah Palin as the Republican VP is an example of how out of touch and grasping at straws the conservatives are this year. To any person who is the least bit rational, this argument makes zero sense. How can you equate a candidate who fought possibly the toughest primary battle in history and came out with only a few scars to someone who didn't even know what the VP did a few weeks ago who was chosen, quite possibly on a whim, by one person?

The Republicans have not only shot themselves in the foot the last 8 years, but they have inadvertantly made the left much stronger. Politics is like a war, one side is almost always winning and the other losing. Winning is a poor teacher, losing is one of the best there is. When the Democrats were out of power, they had to craft their arguments and come up with solid logic to back their ideas. The Republicans got by with more and more transparent spin to the media because they never got challenged.

They got lazy and they got victory disease. They are now in the habit of just saying anything and the media and Democrats run and cower.

I saw the media shift during Katrina. Anderson Cooper was the most prominent of the reporters, but there were several who made pointed comments about the screw ups. I observed at the time that Bush's free ride with the media was over, and it was. Soon after that, the Democrats started their comeback. Now those who have been silenced by conservative bullying are coming back and they have their positions well vetted and their arguments well crafted.

It's now the conservatives turn to be lost in the wilderness. They will be the down party for a while and they will be working on their arguments. If the Democrats want to maintain power and not abuse it, they need to keep their arguments sharp, even in the good times and they need to treat the out party with respect.

From what I have seen, it appears Obama gets this.
