I had pretty low expectations for this debate and thought it would just be a warmed-over rehash of the previous two, but I'm glad to say I was pleasantly surprised by it.
I thought Schieffer's questions were thought-provoking and required candidates to state their positions clearly and that the format actually allowed enough give and take for real debate.
I thought it was the most substantive and useful one of the campaign and really showed the contrast between the two options people have. Everything from policy, temperament, judgment, their vision of what's important and relevant to the American people and intangibles like body language were all on display here.
For my taste I'm Obama all the way, but there were issues on which I either agreed with JMc or at least got his point as a valid counterpoint to Obama's.
Given how crappy that could have been I thought it went really well. Kudos to the organizers, moderators and candidates.
side note: I need this election to happen already so I can get my life back. I'm wound up so tight wanting BHO to win that I fear I might just start leaking fluids once the results are clear on election night.
Did anyone else notice how John McCain used airquotes and was generally very dismissive while talking about women's "health". This was more than a cringe worthy moment for me. I don't think it's being talked about enough.

I was skeptical about Bill Clinton as well, until I saw him last Sunday speaking at Virginia Commonwealth University. He was comfortable and advocating change, particularly Barack Obama. I won't say that he is 100% gun-ho... it is a tough loss to accept, but President Clinton played the role well and I was impressed by his speech. I'm sure there are links on YouTube.

The thing is, women may be more emotive creatures, but what they bring to the table is undervalued anyway. What they have to offer is a positive thing and not a negative or irrational one.
Logic, justice, reason, these are our societies values, because Western philosophy is almost all male. But they aren't just logic, justice, or reason, they're very MALE logic, justice, and reason. Male philosophy asks questions like, 'Can I ever be truly giving or altruistic, since every kind thing I do results in some satisfaction for myself' and comes up with depressing answers that all human beings cannot truly be completely caring. The traditionally feminine thought process doesn't view things that way- since we're all interconnected, there's no judgment value placed on giving and taking. It's OK to get something out of giving. And so on and so on. Justice, reason, and logic themselves are defined subtly in male terms.
Frankly, female emotiveness, interest in connection with others, care and responsibility are LACKING in government, and we need MORE of it.
Obama was plenty logical, and McCain was illogical at times.
Women might be leaning Obama because they relate to his openness more than McCains tough talk and assumption of power. It's no surprise they support Obama on education and free choice, either- logically!
Women and people with different philosophies bring a ton of great contributions to the table. Obama is the new kind of person, not stuck in a 'male' or 'female' view, that we need. If he is elected, he and Michelle will represent possibly the first caring, sharing, equal, fully reciprocal couple in the White House.

On second thought perhaps it is just the ineptness of his opponent. I know that I'm biased but I just don't think Sen. McCain has done a good job on any of the debates.
