Say It to My Face Debate Liveblog #3

10:12 EDT: [Sean] Massive gender gap on the dials in many answers. In short: women are thinking Obama's winning in a landslide. Men: mixed.

10:09 EDT: [Sean] McCain is looking at Obama a LOT. So much for not acknowledging your opponent.

10:04 EDT: [Sean] "Gold-plated Cadillacs?" McCain really is Ronald Reagan's heir.

10:00 EDT: [Nate] Sorry I've been so quiet. I thought McCain was winning this debate 20 minutes in. But the second time that McCain brought up Lewis still feels like the turning point in the debate to me. From there forward, he's pretty much played into all of his worst stereotypes.

9:53 EDT: [Sean] McCain: Angrily sarcastic, eye rolling, McCain just feels contempt for Obama. Body language is mocking.

9:49 EDT: [Sean] Obama's talking directly to the viewing audience. McCain seems to be looking to the in-person audience more.

9:48 EDT: [Sean] Well, the server errors are back. Publishing problems. Please bear with us. We were told this was fixed, they weren't happy that we mentioned how bad it was during the VP debate. Well, whatever they call Nate up and say, I'm finding this a major problem.

9:45 EDT: [Sean] That was fun. McCain starts ripping Joe Biden. I say, "here comes a tongue jut, watch." Then McCain does it. You can predict the really dishonest answers get the juts.

RESPECT - BrettMarty.com

9:41 EDT: [Sean] Where's McCain's lapel flag pin? And Roland Martin is a spaz with those numbers. Did Gergen leave? No, there he is. He just docked McCain for something Obama said.

9:40 EDT: [Sean] McCain's: "My campaign has been about the economy and jobs" doesn't pass the laugh test for Obama.

9:39 EDT: [Nate] These last fifteen minutes have been fascinating television. I think McCain had been on his way to winning the exchange until he overplayed the John Lewis card.

9:36 EDT: [Nate] This debate is beginning to resemble a typical comment thread at FiveThirtyEight.

Reflection of New York Skyline from Central Park - BrettMarty.com

9:35 EDT: [Sean] McCain finally gets around to Ayers and Acorn. Then major tongue juts as he finishes his attack.

9:30 EDT: [Sean] Wow. Obama calls out the Palin-McCain crowds, and Palin for not stopping it. Says it to McCain's face, I guess.

I don't think the CNN dials are reliable anymore. Fivethirtyeight already provided analysis that said Obama is about at the limit of his support. So the "uncommitted" voters that CNN brought in are probably the types that don't want to vote for McCain but will NEVER vote for Obama.

I'm not liking Obama's performance so far. Any one of us could have roasted the ACORN allegations.

Obama should question McCain on Palin more.
What she did with the rallies was out of line.
I'm glad senator McCain denied that Obama was an Arab when that person said she was ['tis on youtube somewhere]. Not much, really, since it was just the truth, but Palin's been out of line a lot in this election.

I live in NYC and can say that a spending freeze will not accomplish anything. My school got cut over a million dollars [Stuyvesant HS, 15th in the nation and one of the most prestigious], cutting our APs and multiple electives. Many good teachers got cut and we have JUST enough seats for everyone, which means all classes [even unpopular ones, must be full so that we can get credit for something like tech, or whatnot]. This lack of funding makes getting what we need very hard. I need certain classes to get to my goal, MIT, and I just don't see that happening with McCain's 'spending freeze'. He never talks about education, which I think is a terrible mistake. Going to college will be much more difficult with McCain.

As it is going right now, unless McCain really hits a home run this debate, he doesn't have much of a chance.

P.S. McCain is so obviously scripted. His rallies, acceptance speech and all of his arguments in the debates use the same words. Earmarks, mavericks, and movie projectors are getting old. If you cut 1 billion in these earmarks, which could possibly be useful for something, why give a tax break to Exxon Mobil for 4 billion? We could have 3 billion to pump to education and all those earmarks could stay with JUST that one oil company.

P.P.S. Offshore drilling won't have a major impact until 20 years from now. And most wells won't be done until 10 from now. Start 'em whenever, but DON'T expect them to help us.

Great retort from Obama: Talking about Ayres says more about your campaign than it says about me.

First time poster here. The sound on my pc is not working so I'm watching the CNN viewer response lines in silence. One observation is that Obama's lines are very "smooth" -- they build slowly to a sustained peak, plateau at a high level, and stay there. Also D/R/I tend to stay in sync.

McCain's lines are much more fractal, with more highs and lows, splitting of D/R/I

Kinda like the candidates themselves, no?

Obama in favor of banning most late-term abortions. In the spirit of Roe v. Wade, but somewhat surprising response.

And McCain comes back with some negative attack accusing Obama of parsing, and the numbers DIVE on the spot. This isn't working is it? Only time it goes up is when we he says "We have to work together." You'd think he'd have gottne that hint.

Good response from Obama on adoption and preventing unwanted pregnancies. That's usually ignored in the abortion debate

Oh, lets's give Sen. McCain the last word, Shieff. AGAIN.

Obama has never looked better tonight. McCain has never looked worse, not to mention petty and hateful.
